Relax and breathe and quiet your "monkey mind"

One of the worst experiences of stress that I had when I was going through my divorce was a horrible, tight feeling in my chest.

Sometimes I just could not breathe and I thought my chest was going to explode. Little did I realise that the stress that was building up day after day would cause me so much trouble later on.  That little voice in my head kept going round and round desperately trying to work through scenarios, but arriving back at the same place each time.

You probably know that a little stress is good for you.  It helps motivate you.  But if your body is under a permanent state of stress for a long period of time from which there is no relief, it will start to break down.  Just like a car if you were to try and drive it with the hand brake on. The engine would keep revving, eventually overheat and the car would break down. Everything is out of balance.

There are several ways that you can relieve and release that stress and quiet the “monkey mind”.  Today I'm exploring how Qigong, a 4,000 year-old Chinese practice, can help to rebalance the energy system in the body.

In this video, I’m talking to Alessandro Ferullo of Flowing Health.  Alessandro has been practising Qigong for over 25 years and he shows us an effective and simple technique to clear the head and help to release the pent up energy.  Click on the link below and you can follow the technique yourself in the video. We'd love to know how it helped you so please let us know by leaving a comment in the comment box below the video.
